Jesus ascends to heaven with his last words still ringing in his disciples’ ears: ‘You will be my witnesses…to the ends of the earth.’ 120 believers gathered for prayer in an Upper Room, feeling small and confused, wondering what was next. But the power of the Spirit sent them to the nations and 30 years later, at the end of the book of Acts, the faith of these witnesses had reproduced and there were tens of thousands of believers in 40 cities in the Mediterranean basin.
How did this happen? And could it happen again – in our world, where we live, through us and our friends?
In October we will look at the Gospel itself – and how to communicate it to a theologically pluralistic world. In Paul’s second missionary journey, Paul was on his own in Athens and, after carefully observing their objects of worship, couldn’t help but introduce Jesus as the incarnation of the Unknown God. It’s a fascinating story, an unbelievable sermon, and it’s relevance to Brussels is striking. Also this month, since our story takes place in Athens, we want to pray faithfully for Greece and its troubles.
It all starts with All Well this Sunday, back at the familiar Bouche a Oreille. Come at 17:00 for a delicious Greek meal, prepared by a new restaurant called Meze. We suggest a € 5 donation per adult, kids are welcome to eat free. At 18:00 we will begin our worship gathering, with inspiring music, heartfelt prayer, and a meaningful time of communion. The teaching this Sunday will be presented by Andy Matheson, the International Director of Oasis Global, also known to us locally as Stop the Traffik. For more information about Oasis see http://oasisglobal.org. We will have a kids program during the worship gathering, so please bring the whole family!
And new to our All Well Sundays is a training time intended for current and potential Expression leaders – but everyone is welcome! This month’s topic is Relational Evangelism, and it will be presented by Andrew and Karen Burton, leaders with Operation Mobilisation Belgium. The evangelism training will take place from 14:30-16:30, also at the Bouche a Oreille.
